Melodie Provenzano is a NYC-based artist who paints and draws still lifes with acute accuracy and detail that seems to lift the images from the canvas and bring them to life. One can certainly appreciate her art by seeing it on a computer screen, but to see it in person will magnify the experience beyond mere appreciation. When you see with your own eyes the canvases and papers where her images live, there is little doubt that Melodie is a true artist on the brink of a very long and successful career.
So why am I talking about an artist on a real estate blog? Well, lucky for me I found a loophole, as Melodie's newest painting is called 'Rock Center', which is an allusion to the Midtown Manhattan art deco complex known as Rockefeller Center. In Melodie's formative years, she painted window displays for Saks 5th Avenue which is located directly across from Rockefeller Center. You can peruse some of the window displays she painted for Saks on the 'commissions' section of her website. 'Rock Center' is a beautiful still life that captures the essence of this American cultural institution. There is a glass tree in the painting that symbolizes the giant Christmas tree on display every year towering above the gilded Prometheus and ice skating rink. There is also a large crystal that brings to mind the largest building in the complex, 30 Rockefeller Center.
Melodie Provenzano is certainly one of the artists to watch in 2012. She is currently working on paintings for a solo exhibition debuting in November at Lyons Wier Gallery in Chelsea. Mark your calendars!
