Twitter Looks to Sublease its NYC Office Space

March 14, 2023

About Twitter's Chelsea Office Space

Twitter is taking steps to cut costs by subleasing office space at its New York City HQ. The company is attempting to reduce overhead and streamline operations following Elon Musk’s purchase. Twitter has listed nearly 200,000 square feet of office space for sublease at two interconnected buildings. This follows reports that Twitter has laid off staff and missed rent payments on San Francisco and London offices.

Twitter is looking to sublease office space at its two NYC locations in Chelsea – 245 and 249 West 17th Street.

Located between 7th and 8th Avenues, these two adjacent loft-style buildings offer an ideal location for a large tech company in Manhattan - one block from Google's 111 8th Avenue and a short walk to the restaurants at Chelsea Market and the Meatpacking District.

The two buildings offer a combined 200,000 square feet of office space with varying floor plans suited for full-floor tenants and those looking for a large New York City HQ. The entire 12-story building at 245 West 17th Street is available for sublease, offering roughly 12,000 square feet of office space on each floor. The layout allows for a mix of single-floor and multiple-floor occupancy options. The 249 West 17th Street building has three 24,000 square feet floors for sublease.

Twitter's move to sublease office space in New York City is a microcosm of the NYC office market as a whole. The news from Twitter follows similar moves from other major technology firms, such as Meta and Amazon, showing a continued desire to reduce their NYC office space footprints.
